Open Wiring, A Map of the Artist’s Mind
Jinoos Taghizadeh’s most recent solo exhibition, Open Wiring, shown at O Gallery, Tehran, from November 20 to December 2, 2015, included works that use various modes of expression and techniques, such as drawing, sculpture, installation, videos, a pop-up book, etc. They also address a wide range of issues: prison letters, a bus hijacking by Palestinian militant Dalal Mughrabi, films by Andrei Tarkovsky, the whale known for its 52-hertz voice, dog shit, anatomy, a Shakespeare play, and artistic integrity. They all get connected, however, through what Taghizadeh calls “a map of her mind,” an exploration of the ways in which she engages with the world, as an artist and a citizen.
